AP US History

Three Important MC Topics

Preparing for the AP US History Exam

What do the Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments (1848), the Port Huron Statement (1962), and the lyrics of Malvina Reynold’s song “Little Boxes” have in common? All three have generated multiple sets of MC questions and all three test important themes.

The Declaration of Sentiments was inspired by the Declaration of Independence, challenged the cult of domesticity, and launched a movement for women’s voting rights. Both the Port Huron Statement and the lyrics of Little Boxes express disillusionment with American domestic values. For example, Little Boxes decries conformity and mass consumption. It expresses a point of view that was also popularized by Beat writers.
