Many students have a difficult time selecting topics for the SAT essays. For several years a number of my students used Rosa Parks as one of their examples. Rosa’s inspiring story does fit a number of SAT topics. Of course that it why Rosa may be among the most widely used SAT essay examples. It is possible that CB readers may react to Rosa by thinking, “Another Rosa example. This better be good.” At the very least using Rosa Parks will put you in competition with a large number of other students. It is important to remember that Rosa Parks and Dr. King were not the only Civil Rights leaders. I believe you will find that Ella Baker, Fannie Lou Hamer, Joseph McNeil (Greensboro Four) and Robert Moses (Mississippi Freedom Summer) were all inspirational leaders who will fit a number of SAT essay topics.
